Okay, I decided to start this thread to explore the possibilities of lowering for my Datsun 521 & 620 truck.  Also serve as a FAQ reference for lowering for new Datsun members.

As I understand it I have the following options(please feel free to interject and I will modify):

  • Lowering blocks up to 4" maximum, cut down bump stops (*don't have to*).

  • Removing a leaf from each side of the rear, de-arching, lowering blocks and no bump stops.

  • Small C notch in rear frame to clear axle, lowering blocks/de-arch rear leafs.

  • Large 4" or more C notch in frame and install bags (3 or 4 link?) Triangulated 4 link.  Or Custom....

  • Body drop, includes only dropping the cab and frame to the ground.

  • Custom: Add the subframe from another car, such as a Miata!

  • Reindexing front torsion bars will lower the front!

  • Wats drop system *I need more info*

  • Trucks with factory disc brakes can use Hardbody 2" Drop Spindles.

I would eventually like to get some pictures up of each or what would be better is to link to someones project for each category.

This may be a stupid post and I may eventually end up deleting it... but I'm going to give it a try, lol!

Thanks Slam, Bob3, 74datusn620, Smooth, Blake!!

When I installed my 4'' blocks I did not have to cut down my bump stops. Just my input, when doing a link setup for bags I think the triangulated 4 link is the way to go.
You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille

The only thing about doing a triangulated 4 link is that you have to relocate your gas tank or it will get crushed.

That's why I am thinking of making a wats link for my green 620 Slam. With a wats link you get less rear end movement side to side when it is raised or lowered and using air bags.

Currently adding that you can do a custom setup like bob3 did in this mx520.
