so how many of you guys want disc brakes? yeah i know me too!!!!!!   so here is my proposal,  if any of you have the disc brake brackets that use the 92 hardbody calipers and 02 passport/rodeo rotors please let me know, i have a good guy who can machine these or cut pieces to make these very cheaply.    i want to run disc brakes so bad but i cannot afford the 150 dollar brackets.  if i can get some blueprints or even a set of these i can have them made cheaper and sell them to you guys at cost!!!!!!!    i dont want to make any money but im getting tired of my drum brakes and im sure you are too.   so let me know what you guys can come up with!   if i can get the pieces cut out of steel i will do the finish welds  myself (depending on metal thickness probably a 3 pass fillet weld with 6010 root pass and 7018 cover passes).   since this isnt the other site we shouldnt offend anybody by running our version of their brackets (not like they have a patent anyways)  lets show them how DMT DOES IT!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with ya Braden, I don't need any right now, but I'd like to have a set on the shelf for later down the road. I'm sure I'll get a 77 or back 620 down the road. Sent you a pm

I do not agree with this train of thinking as I for one paid more for my set of front disk brake brackets to help fund the research & developement that Mike Klotz put into his brake brakets.  I paid extra for mine so other people would be able to payless.

If you want your own brackets than design them yourself.  How would you feel if you put countless hours into designing something just to have some one else copy it and reproduce it and sell it for less.  How about liability for the parts you sell?

Patent or not I do not believe this is a good way to go.  Just my 2 cents.

braden, i would just convert to D21 or 78-79 620 front disc brakes and fab an upper a-arm.  its been done before, it bolts up and its cheaper if u look hard enough. i already gathered hardbody d21 front disc parts needed for my project all for 60 bucks and the seller insisted that he remove the parts from the truck!

charlie, i hear ya man. lots of stuff made in the US after years of R and D gets bootlegged in china and then gets sold way cheaper

food for thought guys food for thought, its a free enterprise system and if we dont do it someone else will, im not saying copy the design exactly,  maybe improve upon it.

i think your attitude will change when you see this stuff happen.  if theres a market for it then your bet you butt somone else will sell it too!!!!!!

im not trying to steal anything form anybody, but i sure engouh cant afford 150 bucks for some 20 dollar chunks of metal. im trying to  make my truck safer.   ive had quite a few very close calls around here.   hell i topped over a hill one day and there was a mail carrier stopped in the road, im lucky there wasnt a car coming in the other lane!!!    when you spend 150 for the brackets and 3 or 400 for the rest the conversion becomes unreasonable.  all a man really needs is the caliper spacing measurment the rest i could make out of thicker better steel, i could change the whole design completely cand keep nothing but the offset measurment,   heck i dont think anybody has patents on inches or millimeters.     let me know what you guys think, or if you have any other ideas for brackets let us know, either way we need to try and do something

I paid $350 for these and they are worth every penney I paid.  I could have done what you are suggesting and hed them reproduced but I do not think it is ok to take other peoples work with out asking & reproduce it.

As far as the backset measurements those are easy to measure.  The thing is that to get the measurements you have to buy the various parts to be able to mock up to get the neccesarry measurements.

The ones that Beebani sells for $150 on ebay I beleive are the most reasonable ones available at this time.  I bought Mike Klotz's for 3 reasons:

1. He is maticulous in all that he does
2. His design works with original 14" wheels
3. He took the extra time to design spindle bushing to allow the king pin spindles to run the later model inner &outer wheel bearings.

I just do not agree with this thought pattern.

As for it being a free interprise market this is true and someone else will sell them, but I hope that who ever does sell them design there own.  In your way of thinking I guess your Datsun is just a $50 chunk of metal even after all the design & manufacturing went into it.

That is what is/was great about America is our freedom!!!

you 100% correct, but as you stated your opinion i only ask that you can have a little insight into my situation,    im 19 years old, i have a 6 month old son, i just lost my job (not that it payed that good) and im trying to get through college.  needles to say 150 bucks is about 4 days work if i was working at my last job, or gas to get to college for 2 months or more, or 5 cases of diapers and 4 cases of wipes.   im not even gonna talk about the 350 dollar ones.    now, if i was like my brother 32 years old and made 250,000 a year hell yeah ill buy 2 sets!!!!! and one for my friend but its just not feasable, i am simply trying to sort out my options and try and keep others included as well.   now i love my wife and i love my son and they come first and it has taken me over a year and a half just to save up and do my motor swap with my mikunis, i worked my ass off and got paid (after taxes) about 6.75 per hour. so i am 1400 dollars into my motor swap with about 850 into the truck itself so for my daily driver truck   i am in 2250 bucks deep.   thats 333.33repeating hours worth of work or 42 - 8 hour days. now mind you there are other daily expenses in there so thats quite a bit of work for the cheapest mode of transportation i can find.   it costs me 140 dollars a year including taxes and insurance to drive this truck minus any mods or gas i use.  so my truck is worth alot more to me than 50 bucks.  i simply would like to be a bit more safer with disc brakes. i didnt go to school for 2 years and graduate with 6 o-net certificates in gmaw smaw and gtaw welding and production cutting/welding for nothing. why pay 150 or 350 when you can do it yourself for less.   that is what is wrong with hot rodders these days they dont make anything anymore they buy and bolt on buy and bolt this and that. nobody takes a part and makes it to suit their use, they dont take a block of steel and make stuff, they dont take junk and make it new they look in a magazine see a fancy part order it and then the company makes 200% profit.  so tell me if jegs and summit can do this with millions of parts why cant i???   datsun parts llc just screwed rusty in the bunghole on the decals and we cant do anything about it???? wrong we hit em back right where it hurts. its a dog eat dog world and before i join them im sure as hell gonna try and beat em!!!!!!  im sorry we cant see eye to eye on this topic but thats what makes the world go around, i only hope that this does not interfere with the other relationships here on the forum, not everyb ody can be pleased 100% of the time so that is why we all must be respectful and keep this forum the way we like it.  but hey i fyou did the klotz conversion post some pics up !!!!! those brackets look nice.

I understand your situation.  I am 53 and been unemployed since March of 09.  Ask the people maybe they will sell you or even give you measurements.

well i mean i would love to have the satisfaction of making them myself even if they werent my design, and i would love to be able to offer them to our members at a lower price as well, and even if there was a small profit made i would like to get hats or something made and give out with the brackets or give out to new members or even buy something for the giveaway.
